5 unusual facts about Jaime Chávarri


Camarón de la Isla

In 2005, director Jaime Chávarri released the biopic Camarón in Spain starring Óscar Jaenada as Camarón and Verónica Sánchez – star of popular Spanish TV series Los Serrano – as La Chispa.

The director did better with Besos para todos (Kisses to all) (2000), a comedy set in the 1960s starring Emma Suárez, Eloy Azorín and Pilar López de Ayala.

The film explores the sexual awakening of a young man played by Gabino Diego obsessed with his much older cousin Olga, played by Marisa Paredes.

Chavarri subsequent film: Dedicatoria (A dedication) (1980), another collaboration with Elias Querejeta, centers on Juan Uribe, played by José Luis Gómez, a journalist whose interrogation of his comrade, Luis Falcon, a political prisoner, leads him to discover the incestuous relation between Falcon and his daughter, the same woman with whom Juan is having sexual relations.

Juan Luis Panero

In 1976, Jaime Chávarri began the shooting of what was supposed to be an illustrated report about the father Leopoldo Panero; the material turned into the film El desencanto (The Disenchantment) which ended up being a symbol of the family and of the age and may be considered a cult film for a whole generation.

She has since built a reputation as an international star in films such as Manuel Gomez Pereira's Boca a Boca (1996), Bigas Luna's The Chambermaid on the Titanic (1997), Jaime Chavarri's Sus Ojos Se Cerraron (1998), Gabriele Salvatores' adaptation of the Niccolò Ammaniti novel I'm Not Scared (2003) and Brad Anderson's The Machinist (2004).
