FitzGerald has previously served in the same capacity for the Washington Redskins, Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, and Cincinnati Bengals.
In October 2011, he announced he would run for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by retiring U.S. Senator Herb Kohl (D-WI).
On January 23, 2008, Fitzgerald was named the linebackers coach for the Cincinnati Bengals.
He ran for the United States Senate election in 2012, but lost by a wide margin.
