It is very similar to the Indian Bush Lark (M. erythroptera) but has buffy lores, less white behind ear coverts, darker centre to wing coverts and central tail feathers.

This forest is famous to the critically endangered Jerdon's Courser Rhinoptilus bitorquatus locally known as Kalivi kodi.
It commonly includes Jerdon's Leafbird (C. jerdoni) from the Indian Subcontinent, and the Bornean Leafbird (C. kinabaluensis) from northern Borneo as subspecies, but differs from both in measurements and morphology, with Jerdon's lacking any blue to the flight feathers, and Bornean having a distinctive male-like female plumage.
In December 2005, the only known location for the species was threatened by the Telugu Ganga project, a scheme to supply water to the city of Chennai.
Oligodon venustus, commonly known as Jerdon's Kukri Snake, is a species of snake found in the Western Ghats of India (south of Goa).
Jerdon (Journ. As. Soc. Bengal, xxii. p. 476) says that he has recognized the species: it is somewhat locally distributed. I have seen it in the Salem and Coimbatoor districts only, especially near the banks of the Cauvery. It frequents bushy ground, hedges of Euphorbia and clumps of Cactus.
This image is from Jerdon's 1843-47 Illustrations of Indian Ornithology and was made by S. N. Ward of the Madras Civil Service, the foliage was added by Captain S. Best of the Madras Engineers.
