By 1982, Calder was introduced to Barry Weiss, a young college graduate who took Calder out to hip-hop clubs in New York City for his job interview with Zomba.
It was released on Jive Records and is the debut and the only studio album by Verbaan.
Shortly afterwards, their name was changed to "Vagiant UK" following the discovery of another band by the name of Vagiant, and finally to "White Hot Odyssey" after their signing to Jive Records to avoid legal complications.

In 1981, Clive Calder of Zomba started his first U.S. record label Jive Records, which released British dance and pop music such as Q-Feel, A Flock of Seagulls and Tight Fit.
Clive Ian Calder (born 13 December 1946) is a South African-born based record executive and businessman primarily known for co-founding the Zomba Group with Ralph Simon and its subsidiary Jive Records.
The band achieved limited success in the early 2000s, releasing 3 albums in total; Better Ways to Self Destruct, This Is Where I Stand and Kill the Last Romantic on Fierce Panda Records and Jive Records before parting ways in August 2004.
