Lord Ninian Crichton-Stuart

Ismay Catherine Crichton-Stuart (23 December 1909 - 1989); she married, firstly, John Anthony Hardinge Giffard, 3rd Earl of Halsbury on 1 October 1930, but they divorced in 1936, having produced one son together.


Brimpsfield Castle

The owner, John Giffard, 2nd Lord of Brimpsfield, rebelled against King Edward II and was executed in 1322.

In 1986, he tabled a Private Member's Bill in the House of Lords entitled "An act to refrain local authorities from promoting homosexuality"; it failed, but led to the enactment of the similar Section 28.

His grandmother was the Edwardian couturiere Lady Duff-Gordon, otherwise known by her professional name Lucile, and who was a survivor of the RMS Titanic disaster.
