John Lesley

A Scots language translation of the published Latin made in 1596 by James Dalrymple of the Scottish Cloister at Regensburg.

For this he was put under the charge of the bishop of London, and then of the bishop of Ely (in Holborn), and afterwards imprisoned in the Tower of London.

John of Ireland

His name appears on the rolls of the Scottish parliaments, and he is referred to by the Scottish historians, Leslie and Dempster.

After the Peace of Augsburg there were two unsuccessful attempts to recover the former monastic estates for the Benedictine order, firstly in 1578 by the Scottish Bishop John Lesley on behalf of Mary, Queen of Scots, and from 1629 to 1631 by a Commission for the Prince-Bishopric of Bamberg to implement a Roman Catholic Restitution Edict.
