Some of Barbosa's greatest musical influences were Arthur Baker and John Robie, the duo that invented electro funk with Afrika Bambaataa's "Planet Rock".
She was lead singer of the dance music band C-Bank's 1983 Top 5 Hot Dance Music/Club Play single "One More Shot", notable for record producer John Robie's use of a "non-linear" approach to its production.
In 1984 he co-produced Planet Patrol's breakthrough hit Play at Your Own Risk, on which he played the majority of instruments and collaborated with Baker.

Not a success but interesting for its use of the E-mu Emulator, one of the first digital sampling keyboards, was his production on Cuba Gooding, Sr.'s 1983 track "Happiness Is Just Around the Bend."
