In 1878 his wanderlust struck again and he moved to Central, South Carolina, where he built a restaurant on the train line that went from Atlanta to Washington, D.C. Sometime in the late 1880s or early 1890s, Thrasher and his wife followed his sons to Dade City, Florida, where he grew oranges.
