He returned to Sydney as coach of the Cronulla Sharks in 1975–76 commencing an association with that club later carried on by his sons Stuart Raper and Aaron Raper.

He also wrote biographies for several sports stars including tennis players Lew Hoad and Rod Laver, cricketer Keith Miller and umpire Lou Rowan, golfer Bruce Devlin, rugby league players Ken Thornett and Johnny Raper, and VFL player Peter McKenna.
Anderson was replaced by Stuart Raper, another son of Johnny Raper, and the coach of the President's Cup winning team in 1994.
