The ZANU (PF) heavyweight Kumbirai Kangai was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Buhera South from 1980 to 2008 when Naison Nemadziwa of the MDC-T took over after beating ZANU (PF)'s militant Joseph Chinotimba in the March 2008 harmonized elections.
He is the President of the Zimbabwe Federation of Trade Unions and the National Vice-Chairman of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association.

In 2006 it is reported that Chinotimba 'allocated' himself a plot of land in the western suburb of Mabelreign along Clevering Road and built himself a house.
