In December 2012, Schweikert learned from news reports that he was going to lose his seat on the Committee on Financial Services for the 113th United States Congress; he joined Justin Amash of Michigan and Tim Huelskamp of Kansas in a letter to Speaker of the House John Boehner, demanding to know why they had lost their "plum" committee posts.
