In 1389 Sultan Barquq was exiled to al-Karak where he gathered his supporters before returning to Cairo.

Places of historical interest include; the Dargah of Khwaja Karak, the Kara Devi Temple, the Samadhi of Saint Maluk Das, a mound called fort of Jai Chand, Jama Masjid, Kshetrapal Bharav Temple, Kaleshwar Mahadev Temple, and Shivala Maharishi Ashramractions.
Prince Talal has also been involved in Higher Education, serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Mutah University in Karak, Jordan from 1998 until 2001, and as a member of the Committee of Higher Education (the governmental body responsible for Higher Education in Jordan).
MP Salah Suheimat received his primary and preparatory education at the primary school in Karak and then completed his secondary education at the secondary school of Salt (As-Salt),and later obtained a Diploma in Agriculture in Beirut, Lebanon.
Khattak was born into a prominent Khattak and Karak tribal family, in Kohat, North-West Frontier Province of the British Indian Empire.
