Bramall Hall

During that decade rumours arose that Bramall would be dismantled and transported to the United States; this may have been popularised by the autobiography of Kate Douglas Wiggin which described the author's visit to Bramall in 1890.

From then until the outbreak of World War I, the sisters published a series of novels, including their co-authored work, and two collaborations with Kate Douglas Wiggin and Allan McAulay (pseudonym of Charlotte Stewart).

Kate Douglas Wiggin

After graduation, in 1878, she headed the first free kindergarten in California, on Silver Street in the slums of San Francisco.

At her request, her ashes were brought home to Maine and scattered over the Saco River.
