According to the tribes tradition, they are a sub clan of the Khokhar Rajputs.

In the south of the province in the districts of Dera Ismail Khan and Bannu there are Seraiki speaking tribes such as the Jat, Khokhar, Arain and Mallaah, as well as the Baloch of the province who also speak Seraiki.
Other demographics include Rajput mostly migrated from Talwandi Malak Patiala State India, Jat local, Butt originally from Kashmir before partition, Dogar local, Kumhar or Rehmani local & some migrated, Shaikh or Qasab local, Mochi or Bhatti, Nai or Barber, Khokhar, Julaha and some others.
For much of its early history, Dhanni was an uninhabited part of the Jammu state of the Dogra Rajputs, and Khokhar Rajputs, held as a hunting ground for the Rajas of Jammu.
During the Sayyid dynasty (1414–1451) Delhi's authority waned and the area was theater of numerous rebel movements and especially the head Khokhar Jasrath.
The majority of the population of the surrounding are is Arain, Gujjar, Jutt, Kamboh, Awan, Naich, Mirali, Sahu, Dhudhi, Bhatti, Khokhar and Sial.
