27 July - Reeves Point (later Kingscote), South Australia's first official European settlement is founded on Kangaroo Island.
The Division of Mayo is an Australian electoral division located in the hills east of Adelaide, South Australia and currently includes the towns of Victor Harbor, Lobethal, Mount Barker, Strathalbyn, Woodside and Kingscote.
The house seems to have been of high status, with mosaic floors, including a Venus mosaic now displayed in the nearby Corinium Museum, hypocausts and wall-plaster paintings.
Kingscote came from a family that had held the manor of Kingscote, Gloucestershire since the 11th century.

The oldest part of the house was designed by architect Richard Upjohn, as was Kingscote in Newport.
Kingscote, Horsley and Sandgrove woods are similar and includes some Ash and Oak.
He was the son of Colonel Thomas Henry Kingscote and his second wife, the Honourable Harriott Mary Anne Kingscote, daughter of Lieutenant-General Benjamin Bloomfield, 1st Baron Bloomfield of Ciamaltha, Newport, Tipperary, Ireland.
