Batopilas, Chihuahua

Over the centuries scores of hugely productive silver mines have been dug in the area; one estimate (Wilson and Panczner) is that mines in the area have produced seven times as much silver as come from the famous silver mine of Kongsberg, Norway.

Peter Ascanius

He taught zoology and mineralogy in Copenhagen from 1759 to 1771, and later worked as a supervisor at the mines in Kongsberg and elsewhere in Norway.

Subsea Valley

The Subsea Valley(SSV) geographically consists of Fornebu, Sandvika, Asker, Tranby, Drammen, Hokksund and Kongsberg, totaling approximately 75 km in length.


Birger Ruud

In 1987, a bronze sculpture of Birger Ruud, by the Norwegian sculptor Per Ung, was set up in Ruud’s native town of Kongsberg, and in 1991 he was awarded the Egebergs Ærespris for his achievements in ski jumping and alpine skiing.

Kamfjord was awarded the «Urijazz» in Tønsberg 1987, has been engaged as jamkomp at Jazz festivals both in Kongsberg and Molde, has participated in Susanne Fuhr's Billie Holiday Performance 1990-91, and has since 1992 been a member of the local groups «D.E.E. Quartet» (Dag Einar Eilertsen) and «Kjernefamilien», besides collaboration with Odd Børretzen and Lars Martin Myhre, including the album «Noen ganger er det all right» (1995), and at Moldejazz in 1996.

Toshiba-Kongsberg scandal

Several countries of the Coordinating Committee for Multilateral Export Controls (CoCom) member nations had illegally exported to the Soviet Union machine tools that could be used in combination with the Kongsberg numerical control (NC) devices made in Norway in violation of the CoCom agreement during the Cold War.
