After the 1991 bisexual anthology Bi Any Other Name: Bisexual People Speak Out was forced to compete in the Lambda Literary Awards under the category Lesbian Anthology, BiNet USA led the Bisexual Community a multi year campaign eventually resulting in the addition of a Bisexual category, starting with the 2006 Awards.

Lambda Literary Award

In 2004, the book The Man Who Would Be Queen: The Science of Gender-Bending and Transsexualism by the highly controversial researcher J. Michael Bailey was announced as a finalist in the Transgender category of the 2003 Awards.

Matthew Hays

He won a Lambda Literary Award for his 2007 book The View from Here: Conversations with Gay and Lesbian Filmmakers.
