Latvian Song and Dance Festival

The first steps taken in Latvian environment was during the song days in Dikļi in 1864, which led to the resounding of a full-scale Song Festival in Riga during the summer of 1873.

After the Soviet invasion and annexation of Latvia, festivals continuing in the Latvian SSR, now celebrating the Soviet family.

Singing Revolution

However Latvian Song and Dance Festival of 1985 also has been sometimes named for choirs requesting and performing song Gaismas pils conducted by Haralds Mednis after the main event.
