The team had previously played in the historic Palestra, a building that had moved from Laurium, Michigan in 1921 and was torn down shortly after Lakeview opened.
In 1895 the legislature changed Calumet's name to Laurium, after the famous mining town in ancient Greece.
The silver mines at Laurium were very rich and helped provide a currency for the economy of Ancient Athens.
However, the arrival of steam and the concentration of shipping at Piraeus caused the town's seagoing trade to collapse, and agriculture also diminished as increasing emigration took place, especially to Piraeus and Laurium.
