1958 Lebanon crisis

At the end of June Essex and Boston were anchored at Piraeus, Greece, while Des Moines, from which Vice Admiral Charles R. Brown was flying his flag, was at Villefranche-sur-Mer.

1971 European Cup Winners' Cup Final

The final took place on 19 May 1971 and was staged at Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus, Greece, which was filled to capacity by traveling fans of both clubs as well as local football aficionados.

Panhellenic Union of Fighting Youths

Salamis Naval Base

A suburban standard gauge light railway line (Piraeus-Perama light railway) opened in 1936, connecting downtown Piraeus with Perama and terminating inside the Naval Base at Amphiali.

T. P. Riley Comprehensive School

The school received news coverage in October 1988 when one of the school's history teachers, Bernard Butt (aged 44), was killed on a cruise ship after it sank following a collision with a freighter near Piraeus in Greece during a school trip journey.
