The northeast segment of American Parkway was built on former Lehigh and New England Railroad (L&NE) right-of-way.
The connection in West Catasauqua with the Lehigh and New England Railroad (formerly the Crane Iron Company tracks) had been abandoned in 1961.
After 1904 most of the L&NE's stock was owned by the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company.
