The magazine has featured fiction, poetry, interviews, and essays by such internationally renowned writers as Les Murray, Ruth Padel, Göran Sonnevi, Eamon Grennan, Pia Tafdrup, Seamus Heaney, Giannina Braschi, Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, Tadeusz Rozewicz, Diane di Prima, Regina Derieva, Alicia Ostriker, Dennis Nurkse, Tomas Venclova, Mariela Griffor, John Kinsella, and Gunnar Harding.
He finally ended up at Princeton University, where he graduated with an A.B. in 1978, and was a Senior Editor at Farrar, Straus and Giroux from 1978 to 1989, working with such authors as Joseph Brodsky, Elias Canetti, Carlos Fuentes, Alberto Moravia, Les Murray, Philip Roth, Mario Vargas Llosa, and Marguerite Yourcenar.
But, reflecting the national character of the magazine, contributors during this period included Les Murray, Christopher Koch, Dorothy Green, Humphrey McQueen, Donald Horne, Frank Moorhouse, Gwen Harwood, Bernard Smith, Hugh Stretton, Tim Winton, Olga Masters, Marion Halligan, John Forbes, Judith Beveridge, Geoff Page and Peter Porter.
Contributors include some of the greatest Welsh and international writers and thinkers: Dannie Abse, Paul Muldoon, P. D. James, Emyr Humphreys, Leslie Norris, Gwyneth Lewis, Les Murray, Rachel Trezise, Niall Griffiths, Owen Sheers, Terry Eagleton, Edna Longley, Byron Rogers, Gillian Clarke and Paul Groves.
Khan is also credited with introducing and co-translating (with Noshi Gilani) the great Australian poet Les Murray into the Urdu language.
The local café, which has sustained generations of truckies, has also been the source of inspiration for some of Australia's recent modern poets, Les Murray and Bruce Dawe.
Patrons of The Concourse include leading figures in Australia’s arts industries including soprano Yvonne Kenny, poet Les Murray, authors Matthew Reilly and Renée Goossens and rock icon Angry Anderson AM.
Stephanie Brantz was originally a weekend presenter of the show, but joined Les Murray as a co-host during 2006, before she defected to the Nine Network in August of that year.
