Cadillac V8 engine

White was appointed to a committee of three to supervise the development of the V12 Liberty Aircraft Motor.

At the outbreak of WWI, Joy began investigating airplane engines with Packard engineers, a research program that culminated in the renowned Liberty Motor.

White Triplex

No suitable engines were available to give a sufficient advantage over the British Napier Lion, so the simplest possible chassis was constructed and three war-surplus Liberty aero engines were squeezed into it.

It was powered by three 27-litre Liberty aero-engines, for a total of 36 cylinders, 81 litre displacement and a claimed 1500 bhp.


Liberty L-6

In 1920 10 more L-6 engines were ordered, designated L-825, several of which were installed in the Curtiss PN-1, (only two built), and the Engineering Division TW-1, (only six built).
