On October 20, 1951, former Kentucky players Alex Groza, Ralph Beard, and Dale Barnstable were arrested for taking bribes from gamblers to shave points during the National Invitation Tournament game against the Loyola Ramblers in the 1948–49 season.
In 2013, the Ramblers were defeated by the UCI Anteaters 0–3 (24-26, 18–25, 27–29) in the first semifinal of the NCAA championships on May 2, 2013 at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion.

The 1962-1963 men's basketball team, led by coach George Ireland, won the 1963 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament, by defeating the University of Cincinnati, 60-58, in the title game.
Sappleton played for the Loyola Ramblers from 1978–82 and was the Midwestern City Conference (now the Horizon League) Player of the Year in 1982.
