John Luttrell-Olmius, 3rd Earl of Carhampton

He was a member of the Irish branch of the ancient family of Luttrell and a descendant of Sir Geoffrey de Luterel, who established Luttrellstown Castle, County Dublin in the early 13th century.

It has been owned variously by the eponymous and notorious Luttrell family, by the bookseller Luke White and his descendants Baron Annaly, by the Guinness family, the Primwest Group, and since 2006, by JP McManus, John Magnier and Aidan Brooks.

Colonel Henry Luttrell, (born about 1655, died 22 October 1717), the second son of Thomas Luttrell of Luttrellstown, was an Anglo-Irish soldier.

His sister Anne Luttrell (1742-1808), one of the great beauties of the age, married as her second husband Prince Henry, Duke of Cumberland, one of the brothers of King George III.

In 1983 it was sold to the private consortium Primwest, and in 2006, it was bought by JP McManus, John Magnier and Aidan Brooks.

The castle has hosted visits by Queen Victoria in 1844 and 1900, and its media profile was raised when Victoria Adams married David Beckham there on 4 July 1999.

Although an enemy accused them of being "but a mean family" the Nettervilles had been in Ireland since c.1280 and established at Dowth since before 1500; they were related to many of the leading families of The Pale including Lord Howth and the Luttrells of Luttrellstown Castle.
