The same year, King Lou made his recording debut, appearing on Michie Mee and L.A. Luv's single, "Victory Is Calling", which also featured MC Lyte.
She is well known for her background vocals being featured on work by Janet Jackson, Alexander O'Neal, Karyn White, New Edition, and S.O.S. Band, plus other acts produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (as well as lead vocals on the chorus of MC Lyte's 1993 single "Ice Cream Dream").

In February 2008, the Roots invited Fat City Reprise to perform at their Pre-Grammy party at the Key Club in Los Angeles where they performed with Patrick Stump, Seal, Travis Barker, MC Lyte, Doug E. Fresh, Bilal, Corinne Bailey Rae, and Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes.
The song's promotional music video featured appearances from Jermaine Dupri, MC Lyte, The Notorious B.I.G., Sean "Puffy" Combs, Keith Murray, Too Short, T-Boz and Bill Bellamy, among others.
The first track on the album, "Friend & Respect", featured spoken intros by the likes of LL Cool J, Buju Banton, KRS-One, Kool G Rap, Little Shawn, MC Lyte, Martin Lawrence, Pete Rock, Positive K, Q-Tip, Queen Latifah, Spike Lee and Treach.
1999 also brought about an expansion to the series and "The Women of Hip Hop was born. Artists such as Da Brat, Lauryn Hill, MC Lyte, Yo-Yo and Lisa Lopes (aka Left Eye) were featured. 2000 saw another version of "The Men of Hip Hop" and a "Woman of Music" co produced by Sebastian Charlton with artists such as Monica, Mýa, Eve and Aaliyah.
The lyrical sketches featured a variety of hip hop artists such as Q-Tip, Mos Def, Cee-lo, Common, Tash, Snoop Dogg, Erykah Badu, Krayzie Bone, Slick Rick, MC Lyte, and a host of others.
The song became MC Lyte's second highest charting single in the U.S. after her previous single "Keep On, Keepin' On", peaking at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The accompanying music video for the song was directed by Antti Jokinen and it features Knowles, Elliott, MC Lyte and Free.
MC Lyte's debut album Lyte as a Rock (1988) was another success, and is today widely regarded as a hip hop classic.
