According to one report, in May 2007, MacKinlay made the nomination that resulted in Gordon Brown having enough nominations to be certain of not facing a contest over the leadership of the party.
In June 2012 Mackinlay was selected as the Conservative’s candidate in Kent for the Police and Crime Commissioner elections, beating off competition from Jan Berry, who was in charge of the Police Federation of England and Wales for several years, and former High Commissioner to Uganda, Francois Gordon.
Alternative models for the normal returns include the CAPM model, or more simplistic approaches such as mean returns (see MacKinlay 1997 for an overview).
Jock Mackinlay was born in Nuremberg, Germany and received his BA in Mathematics and Computer Science from UC Berkeley in 1975 and his PhD in computer science from Stanford University in 1986, where he pioneered the automatic design of graphical presentations of relational information.
