Malaco is and has been the home of various major soul, blues and gospel acts, such as Johnnie Taylor, Bobby Bland, Z. Z. Hill, Denise LaSalle, Benny Latimore, Dorothy Moore, Little Milton, Shirley Brown, Marvin Sease, and the Mississippi Mass Choir.

In May of that year, she went to Malaco Studios in Jackson, Mississippi, for a recording session during which she recorded "Mr. Big Stuff."
The group spent the bulk of their tenure as signees to the Malaco Records subsidiary Muscle Shoals.
Reed initially gained experience as an engineer while working for Malaco Records and Parallax Records, both independent labels based in Jackson, MS; and later, Ardent Studios in Memphis, TN garnering numerous gold and platinum awards with such artists such as the U.K.’s Primal Scream, the pop-sensible Gin Blossoms and the country music world’s Aaron Tippin.
