Worrod is credited with recording songs of international status, such as Malaika (Fadhili William), Helule Helule (which later caught the interest of the British pop band, The Tremeloes), and the Kenyan-nationalised anthem-like Harambee.
Equator Sound Studios, under direction from Worrod at that point, marketed and produced Fadhili's world-famous Swahili love-ballad, Malaika, after Worrod realised that the original poorly-recorded Malaika could have international appeal.
Farian announced that he didn't want to make more Boney M. recordings - only to call back Mitchell to re-record their 1981 hits "Felicidad" and "Malaika".

Among the hits were "I natt jag drömde" (a Swedish version of "Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream"), Mike Berry's "Tribute to Buddy Holly" (#4, Sweden), "Malaika" (with lyrics in Swahili), "Wedding", "Consolation", "Cadillac" (#1, Sweden), "Farmer John" (#2, Sweden), "No Response" and "Sunny Girl".
After the item number "Sheila Ki Jawani" featuring Katrina Kaif was released, parallels were drawn between Katrina and Malaika, as well as between the item numbers, in what was popularly known as the "Munni vs Sheila" debate.

Due to its popularity, Malaika (and the song itself) was frequently compared to actress Katrina Kaif and her item number "Sheila Ki Jawani" from the 2010 movie Tees Maar Khan.
In 2011, after leaving South Africa to try her luck in Hollywood, she landed a recurring role of a heart surgeon, Dr. Malaika Maponya, on the American soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful.
