Konstantopoulos was eventually elected as a member of the Nationalist Party to the parliament representing Mantineia, a town in northern Arcadia and by 1890 he was elected President of the Parliament.
Later, Sparta used the Peace of Antalcidas as a pretext to break Mantineia into its constituent villages.
The name Pelagos (meaning "sea") dates from classical antiquity, and refers to an oak forest on the road from Mantineia to Tegea.
