By 1908 Margaret and Berthe were living at 224 Lauderdale Mansions, a spacious apartment in Maida Vale, which they shared with the prominent anti-vivisectionists, Lizzy Lind af Hageby and Leisa Schartau.

Margaret was Honorary Secretary of the International Anti-Vivisection Council set up in 1908 by Lizzy Lind af Hageby, and they organized between them the International Anti-Vivisection and Animal Protection Congress in London in July 1909.
She heard that a number of women were trying to set up a women's police force and, in 1914, she joined Nina Boyle's Women Police Volunteers, which was taken over by Margaret Damer Dawson in 1915 and renamed the Women Police Service (WPS), with Allen as second-in-command.
