During 1958 and 1959 he spent time at the Mayo Clinic with Dr D.C.McGoon, and at the Cleveland Clinic with Dr D.B.Effler in the clinical service, and with Dr W. Kolff in the Laboratory for Artificial Organs.

Upon his return to Romania in 1960 he was appointed Consultant Cardiovascular Surgeon at Fundeni Hospital in Bucharest.

Valentin Marian Ionescu (born September 3, 1961, Bucharest, Romania) is a Romanian lawyer, former presidential advisor to the President of Romania Emil Constantinescu (between September 5, 1997 and December 12, 1997) and subsequently Minister of Privatization (December 1997 - April 14, 1998).
