Protestant preachers fleeing Marian persecutions in England brought with them Edward VI's second Book of Common Prayer (of 1552), which was commended by the Lords of the Congregation.
The Hosmer family is traced to Rotherfield in Sussex (and much earlier to Dorset), where a certain Alexander Hosmer was native before a marian martyr in nearby Lewes and the family consequently moved to Kent in the following generations.
William Pikes (d. Brentford, July 14, 1556) (also William Pickesse, Wyl Pyckes) was a tanner in Ipswich, Suffolk who was arrested in Islington during the Marian persecutions as a member of a group studying the Bible in English, and was burnt at the stake in Brentford.
