The first winter ascent of Giewont occurred in 1904 by a group of five mountaineers led by Mariusz Zaruski.
Later, he moved to Kraków where between 1901-1906 he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts.

Registered on 29 October 1909 under its current name with Mariusz Zaruski as its first head and dr. Kazimierz Dłuski as the president of the TOPR Association.
