McMorris was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and is the son of Saskatchewan provincial politician Don McMorris, a grain farmer, and Cindy McMorris, a nurse.
He won a silver medal in Snowboard Slopestyle at the 2012 Winter X Games XVI in Aspen, Colorado, behind Mark McMorris.
