The President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, made a point of receiving her family to pay his condolences in person.
EP President Martin Schulz, former German foreign minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher, President János Áder, former presidents László Sólyom and Pál Schmitt, Archbishop Péter Erdő and former parliamentary speaker Katalin Szili were also in attendance, as well as representatives of the Socialist party, Fidesz, Christian Democrats, PM and DK, among others.

On 24 November 2010 the British MEP Godfrey Bloom caused a row in the European Parliament when he interrupted a speech by Martin Schulz, heckling him with the Nazi propaganda slogan ‘Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Führer’ (‘one people, one empire, one leader’) and accusing him of being an ‘undemocratic fascist’.
