Hoppegarten

Hoppegarten is located close to the eastern suburbs of Berlin (Mahlsdorf, in the borough of Marzahn-Hellersdorf).

Marzahn

Marzahn was the site of a labour camp (today a water treatment plant), where Romani were interned from July 16, 1936 on, two weeks prior to the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, away from visitor's eyes.

Marzahn-Hellersdorf

Although the immigrant minority is relatively small, the borough has a higher concentration of Russian, Kazakh and Vietnamese people as compared to other parts of the city.

As a result of the building of two more developing areas (Hellersdorf and Kaulsdorf) the number of inhabitants increased so that the borough Hellersdorf was founded out of the three districts Hellersdorf, Kaulsdorf and Mahlsdorf on 1 June 1986.


Ahrensfelde

Parts of the municipal area near Ahrensfelde station were overbuilt and finally incorporated into the East Berlin borough of Marzahn in 1990.

Alt-Hohenschönhausen

Together with Wartenberg, Falkenberg and Marzahn, Hohenschönhausen was one of the first parts of Greater Berlin to be capitulated by the Red Army in the evening of 21 April 1945.

Memorial to the Sinti and Roma victims of National Socialism

The city of Berlin initially wanted to place it in the less prominent district of Marzahn, where hundreds of Roma and Sinti were held in terrible conditions from 1936.
