It is named for Mathias Zdarsky, the Austrian pioneer exponent of ski-mountaineering, inventor of the first dependable ski binding, and author of one of the earliest skiing manuals.
The sub-title of the book quotes the ski pioneer Mathias Zdarsky: Snow is not a wolf in sheep's clothing – it is a tiger in lamb's clothing.
