It is found in Belize and eastern Guatemala, in the Maya Mountains, Sierra de Santa Cruz, Sierra del Mico and the eastern part of the Sierra de las Minas.
Belizean geology consists largely of varieties of limestone, with the notable exception of the Maya Mountains, a large uplifted block of intrusive Paleozoic granite and sediments running northeast to southwest across the south-central part of the country.
South Stann Creek rises in the foothills of the eastern slopes of the Maya Mountains within the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary; the South Stann Creek drains the Cockscomb West Basin.
