Marc Philippe Eskanazi (guitar, Medium Cool, The Mooney Suzuki), who toured with Hammond, played on the album according to an interview with Pitchfork Media.

Wexler has said the scene under the opening credits with the bike messenger delivering film to the television station was inspired by the film, Black Orpheus (1959).

In 2003, the United States National Film Preservation Board added the 1969 film Medium Cool, co-produced by Jerrold and Haskell Wexler, to the National Film Registry.
