Carberry was outlived by his second wife, Elisabeth, Lady Carbery, and his five children, and was succeeded by his son Michael Evans-Freke, 12th Baron Carbery.

Since 1974 she has been performing free improvisational music with musicians such as Davey Williams, Gunther Christmann, Anne Lebaron, Derek Bailey, Eugene Chadbourne, Misha Feigin, Michael Evans, David Sait, Jack Wright, John Russell, Sergey Letov, Toshi Makihara, Andrew Dewar and many other of the world's major improvisers.
The son of Peter Evans-Freke, 11th Baron Carbery and Joyzelle Mary Binnie he succeeded to the peerage upon his father's death in 2012.
Carter is best known for his work as a child and teenager, both in the Broadway musical Raisin (based on the Lorraine Hansberry drama A Raisin in the Sun) and as the character Michael Evans, the youngest member of the Evans family, on the 1970s sitcom Good Times.
He was the son and heir of Percy Freke, of Rathbarry, by Elizabeth, the daughter of Ralph Freke of Hannington, Wiltshire.
