The 2005–06 season began with a “new” coach at the helm, Mike Dement (it was his second tenure with UNCG after having previously coached the Spartans from 1991–1995).
Mike Dement is an American college basketball coach and the former head men's basketball coach at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
After four years with the Spartans, Peele was promoted to replace former head coach Mike Dement, who had left to take over the men's basketball program at SMU.
Mike Dement served as the architect of the program in its move to Division I.
