In March 2007, after the resignation of the island's first Chief Minister, Deputy Laurie Morgan, Le Tocq stood as the youngest of four candidates for the post, but was unsuccessful as Deputy Mike Torode was elected.
On 5 March 2007, Deputy Mike Torode was elected to succeed Laurie Morgan as Chief Minister.
He succeeded Mike Torode as Guernsey's third Chief Minister following the creation of the post in 2004.
Torode succeeded Laurie Morgan following the Fallagate scandal that led to the whole Policy Council of Guernsey resigning en masse in February 2007.
