He took post-gradual courses at the École d'application du génie (French school of military engineering) in Angers, from 1972 to 1973.
He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, New York, in 1946 with a bachelor of science degree in military engineering, a commission as second lieutenant and his pilot wings.

In 1939 the School of Military Engineering was re-established at Steele Barracks in Liverpool, New South Wales, where it remains today.
