A paper about female friendships in the British teen drama series Skins is probably the last thing anyone would expect to find on a conference panel about ‘Renaissance and Early Modern Independent Women.’ However, the penultimate episode of series five plays quite deliberately upon the parallels between the characters’ romantic entanglements and those of the Shakespearean counterparts they portray in a college production of Twelfth Night.
