It was recorded twice, once in upstate New York with Bowie producer Tony Visconti, bassist Bones Hillman and Ross Burge on drums, then again six months later in Los Angeles with Crowded House producer Mitchell Froom and different session musicians.
The Stone People consisted of Dobbyn himself on the guitar, piano and as the lead vocalist, album producer Mitchell Froom on the keyboard, Bruce Thomas on the bass guitar and Pete Thomas on the drums and as the percussionist.
Latin Playboys is a musical group comprising David Hidalgo, Louie Pérez, Mitchell Froom and Tchad Blake, active in the 1990s.
Produced by T-Bone Burnett and Mitchell Froom, the record included three songs co-written by Burnett and one by Victoria Williams, and also featured the talents of Williams, Morlix, Klein, Mike Campbell (of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), John Hiatt, Jim Keltner, Jerry Marotta, Roger McGuinn (of The Byrds), and Van Dyke Parks, among others.
All three are daughters of music industry veterans; Berg's father is former Geffen Records A&R exec/record producer Tony Berg, Froom's father is producer Mitchell Froom and Thomas' father is Pete Thomas, longtime drummer for Elvis Costello.

All the songs available on the various formats were written by Neil Finn, except "Six Months in a Leaky Boat" (written by Tim Finn and Split Enz) and "Something So Strong" (written by Neil Finn and Mitchell Froom).
He began his career working with Mitchell Froom and Tchad Blake as a staff engineer at The Sound Factory in the early 90’s but would quickly move on to independent projects with Michael Penn, The Wallflowers, Sheryl Crow, Tom Waits and Fantômas.
