In the Roman Empire, an outpost named Ancarano, whose ruins are still visible in Božiči, was established next to a road that ran through Škofije, between Tinjan Hill and the Milje hills through Bivje, where ruins of it are still visible.
For centuries Hrvatini belonged to the municipality of Muggia (now in Italy).

Some hundred castellieri have been discovered in Istria, Friuli and Venezia Giulia, such as that of Leme, in the central-western Istria, of the Jelarji, near Muggia, of Monte Giove near Prosecco (Trieste) and San Polo, not far from Monfalcone.
