unusual facts about Myeloid/lymphoid or mixed-lineage leukemia

Addressin

The protein encoded by this gene is an endothelial cell adhesion molecule that interacts preferentially with the leukocyte beta7 integrin LPAM-1 (alpha4 / beta7), L-selectin, and VLA-4 (alpha4 / beta1) on myeloid cells to direct leukocytes into mucosal and inflamed tissues.

AFF3

In some ALL patients, this gene has been found fused to the gene for MLL.

Atypical chronic myeloid leukemia

In 2012 SETBP1 was identified as a novel oncogene in aCML; specific somatic mutations of this gene were discovered in patients affected by atypical Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (aCML) and related diseases.

HOXA9

HOXA9 expression is regulated by several genes, including UTX, WHSC1, MLL and MEN1.

Interleukin 7

IL-7 stimulates the differentiation of multipotent (pluripotent) hematopoietic stem cells into lymphoid progenitor cells (as opposed to myeloid progenitor cells where differentiation is stimulated by IL-3).

Ponatinib

At the 2010 annual meeting of the American Society of Hematology, ARIAD announced from a Phase I study of ponatinib in patients with resistant and refractory chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and Philadelphia-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph+ ALL).

Vjekoslav Šutej

In August 2008 Šutej was diagnosed with myeloid leukemia and later underwent chemotherapy treatment and a bone marrow transplantation procedure at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle.
