For 10 years from 2000 he was a Director of the Irish National Chamber Choir.
The Choir’s repertoire spans from early to contemporary music, regularly commissioning pioneering vocal work by both Irish and International composers such as Gerald Barry (composer), Andrew Hamilton, Siobhán Cleary, Kevin Volans and Tarik O'Regan.

From May 2002 to January 2007 the choir's conductor was Cologne-based Celso Antunes, who succeeded founding Artistic Director Colin Mawby.

His secular works include two operas for young people, The Torc of Gold (1996) and The Quest (2000), both on libretti by playwright Maeve Ingoldsby, commissioned by the National Chamber Choir and premiered in Dublin under his direction.
