The highway begins at the MacArthur Bridges in the east(connecting the Neihu district, and Keelung Road (in the Xinyi and Songshan districts), heads west to an interchange with the Zhongxiao Bridge and the Huanan Expressway, providing direct access to Taipei Main Station, which is just south of the Civic Blvd.

In October, 1999, the school moved to the Neihu District of Taipei; in the next year, the Tri-Service General Hospital, the affiliated hospital, also moved to Neihu, where they were renamed collectively as the National Defense Medical Center.
Many mountainous roads and paths, which are ideal for hiking, connect Neihu with the neighboring Shilin District and Yangmingshan National Park.
